What is the Florida DMV?

The Florida DMV is now called the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DMVHS). The Florida DMV is an often overlooked executive agency. However, it is arguable one of the most significant. The DMV is the agency that issues driver’s licenses, and the DMV is the agency that can take driver’s licenses away.

Most of us in Florida take our driving privileges for granted. Many of us cannot image life without our driver’s license. Some of us would be surprised to learn that driving in the State of Florida is not a right it is a privilege granted by the DMV.

All drivers in Florida have certain obligations. The DMV requires that drivers take a test before they are given a license, and there are certain rules and regulations that drivers must follow in order to keep their license. Drivers can lose their driver’s license because they get too many points, they do not pay child support, they write a bad check, or they get a DUI.

If you lose your driver’s license in Florida the DMV has certain requirements that you must satisfy before you can get your driver’s license back. Some are easy, and some are more difficult a may require the legal assistance of a traffic law attorney.
